It’s Friday, friends! Let’s talk donuts! Or better yet, let talk donuts that are topped with a delicious glaze and then dipped in chocolate and fruity cereal!
I had this epiphany recently where I realized that we are totally underestimating the cereal aisle. Since I started adding my favorite cereals to my desserts I just can’t stop. When I’m figuring out what to bake, a walk through the cereal aisle is my new source of inspiration, and I’m not regretting it one bit! In my mind, cereal is basically just another form of flavored sprinkles, right? I mean, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE sprinkles. But why not mix it up a bit and top some donuts with your favorite cereal snack! It also helps that when you serve these to your loved ones, their eyes get big and excited as if they’re a kid being served dessert for the first time!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Yields: A dozen donuts
Ingredients
1 ¾ cup flour
1 cup sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
½ cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup oil
¼ cup water
Glaze Ingredients
½ cup powdered sugar
1-2 tablespoons of water or milk*
Dash of vanilla
Chocolate and fruity cereal
Directions
1.Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and spray your donut pan with nonstick spray.
2. In a large bowl mix together your dry ingredients. In a separate bowl whisk together your wet ingredients and then add to your dry mixture, and stir until just combined.
3.Add your batter to a piping bag and pipe or spoon into your prepared pan. Bake for about 12 minutes and allow to cool before glazing.
4.Mix together your ingredients for your glaze and once the donuts have cooled, dip or pour over your donuts before sprinkling with your favorite cereal!
*If your glaze is too thick add more liquid, and vice versa if it’s too liquidy!
**These donuts are inspired by Molly Yeh's recipe and I love them every time I bake them!
